I Dream…

He lightly caresses her face,
scared that he’ll wake her up.
“How pretty is You,” he wonders,
when suddenly she’s up in a lurch.

She cries,”I had a scary sad
dream and it hurts me bad”.
He says,”Dont worry sweetheart.
Calm down and hold my hand.

“No dream’ll hurt you now
that I’m here, my dear.
Here’s my shoulder rest your
head and forget your Fear”.

She clutches his collar, rests her
head and whimpers softly.
He tightens his hold on her
Hand and kisses it lightly.

“We were walking through the woods
And I was trotting ahead.
I turned around to call you and
An empty space I find instead.

“I shout out to tell you not
To scare me out of my skin.
I was dying to see you in your
trademark stupid grin.

“I started crying while it got dark
sooner than I would’ve thought,
and then I heard you cry out with
pain and then I heard a shot.

“That’s when I woke up dear. I was too
scared to see what happened next”.
He pulls her closer and softly says, “He’d
strike me if I do that to you even in a jest.

“Lady, don’t cry. These dreams are
Here for a reason.
They haunt us all and some, I agree,
are very fearsome.

“But see, its through them we realize how
hard it’ll be to stay away
From your loved one if he goes away
and didn’t say where.

“I see you sweating so much, dear,
But please don’t relive the horror.
No one can take you away from me.
No one will even get near ya.

“C’mon wipe your tears and gimmi
A smile and be a girl more brave.
For you, my love my life, I’m
Here forever to stay.
