Shootouts, wars, guns, bombs and Imbeciles

Everything is fair in Love and War.

Just how seriously we’ve taken that bit of tomfoolery is astounding! We’ve left the leopard skin behind and taken up tail coats; we’ve left behind flint to segue into filament bulbs; we’ve left the battle field and moved into boardrooms. These days one doesn’t need to actually hold a friggin gun to blast someone’s head off. They need to be just standing behind a young intern with close cropped hair and a nervous face and just tap his shoulder. Poof! Suddenly he has killed a million, injured another billion, maimed a few hundreds and uprooted a few thousands.

The days of the brave-hearts and die-hards are over. The day of  the swashbuckling capitalistic pig is here. Every suit wearing arms dealer in the world, all the way from Lockheed Martin to Halliburton, is a murderer a thousand times over. The caped crusader wears capes no more. They socialise over beer in the pubs frequented by the normal folks. They don’t need a darn disguise. After all, it’s legit. The harbinger of death is no more grim. He’s a having fun baby. Fun? Noooo. He’s living it like a King hisself!

And then there are us. The normal folks. Us who really don’t know squat about the games played high above us. Not the holy ones, man! I’ma talking about the ones played by the government and the secret services. CIA, FBI, ISI, RAW, Mossad etc etc… I’ve heard telling that the secret society a.k.a the defense ministry has more control over the President/ Prime Minister than the other way around. The government is, on a certain level, unaware of the going ons. As straight-outta-the-pantyhose exciting and dramatic it sounds i’m sure there is a bit of honesty in that statement.

Sample this from Body of Lies:

Edward Hoffman: I would hate to have my president call your king because that’s just gonna be embarrassing for all of us.
Hani Pasha: In matters of intelligence, Edward, you are speaking to the king.
Edward Hoffman: Well, Your Highness, I want control. As a favor to the United States.
Hani Pasha: You can’t have it. I could tell you we will run him jointly, but it would not be the truth. Real intelligence operations, they remain secret forever. You Americans, you are incapable of secrecy because you are a democracy.

Ah! What an amazing actor this Mark Strong is! Presence, charisma what not! Anyway this is a small dialogue between the Jordanian , played by Strong, and Hoffman from CIA. It’s just a tiny glimpse into the world of espionage and counter espionage; of crosses and double crosses. Intel, they say, is a never ending tale of raw data and statistics. Intel, they say, is the reason why the cooking oil prices increase and luxury vineyards’ decrease and become more affordable! And if there aren’t any wars being fought that data goes for a toss! Now that’s an absurd line of thought, thank you, but sit back and go down to the very basics; to the grass root mathematics to it all. Comfy? It’s important that we see these egotistical corporations as money making machinery and nothing short of it. Forgive me for being blunt but there is no better example than to talk about the Wild West. Halliburton and the associations with George Bush and Cheney is long known and accepted. So, how do you keep a money making machine running?

Fodder, my man. Keep making them guns and keep selling them. The NRA makes stupid arguments when it talks about armed guards at every school, but a man’s got to live brother! Shootouts, personally speaking, has escalated beyond comprehension now. I read them in the papers and I remember when people exclaimed wildly when they heard about a crazy old fart shooting wildly in a school or a park or a theatre for God’s sake and I compare their reactions to it now. It borders on exasperation! It’s like,”Not again, duuude”!

What? Shootouts have become so f***ing common that we idly skid over an article of it and roll over to the semi nude babe selling cashews! Where did we as humans go wrong. I’ll forgive you if you react with a “Is that a trick question?” line. Honestly. Little me is not under the mental verbosity to react with patience to the quick dwindling of the human mind and I’d rather go insane abusing my gut off at the world in general and these bastards in particular but has a little profanity ever made anyone react? Darn it!

A friend recently introduced me to Lowkey (A great artist. With a soul. Listen to this Iraqi-British guy rap and you’ll know what I mean) and in one of the tracks there’s this tiny speech by an American war veteran…

…And I tried hard to be proud of my service but all I could feel was shame and racism could no longer mask the occupation. These were people. These were human beings. I’ve since been plagued by guilt anytime I see an elderly man, like the one who couldn’t walk and we rolled onto a stretcher, told the Iraqi police to take him away. I feel guilt anytime I see a mother with her children like the one who cried hysterically and screamed that we were worse than Saddam as we forced her from her home. I feel guilt anytime I see a young girl like the one I grabbed by the arm and dragged into the street.

We were told we were fighting terrorists, but the real terrorist was me and the real terrorism is this occupation. Racism within the military has long been an important tool to justify the destruction and occupation of another country. It has long been used to justify the killing, subjugation, and torture of another people. Racism is a vital weapon deployed by this government. It is a more important weapon than a rifle, a tank, a bomber or a battleship. It is more destructive than an artillery shell, or a bunker buster, or a tomahawk missile. While all of those weapons are created and owned by this government, they are harmless without people willing to use them.

”Those who send us to war do not have to pull a trigger or lob a mortar round. They do not have to fight the war. They merely have to sell the war. They need a public who is willing to send their soldiers into harm’s way and they need soldiers who are willing to kill or be killed without question. They can spend millions on a single bomb, but that bomb only becomes a weapon when the ranks in the military are willing to follow orders to use it. They can send every last soldier anywhere on earth, but there will only be a war if soldiers are willing to fight…

Classy stuff, eh? Yeah, I know it gets a little preachy towards the end but don’t get judgmental you prick!
