Kholo Kholo Darwaze

I’m not saying this is the best song I’ve heard that came out of the Indian Movie Industry, popularly called Bollywood (Morons). I’m also not saying that there can never be another one like this, because that would be a lie.

All I’m saying is that I absolutely LOVE this song. Love it in the truest sense of the word. I get goose bumps listening to the lines and playing the video in a continuous loop inside of my head.

I’m not saying, though, this is THE ONLY song that I like! There is another playing in my head called Naav from the movie Udaan. We’ll get to the awesomeness of that movie  and song later.

About Kholo Kholo Darwaze, there are 3 major reasons as to why I love this the way I do. Aamir Khan, A.R Rahman and Prasoon Joshi.

Aamir Khan, because he is what he is. I refuse to judge him from his recent Dhoom 3, which is muck infested crap masquerading as a movie (But I really like Abhishek Bachchan). Yeah he’s acted well, but he should choose better movies! His marketing skills prove a point too. I don’t want to call him a good marketing whizkid or the likes because it takes away attention from his direction and acting. Some say he knows how to sell himself. They’re right. But I would rather jut see him enact magic onscreen.

A.R Rahman, because he is one of my favourites when it comes to music. Yes, goose bumps again! The fact that he was a part of the theatre production of Lord of the Rings just quadruples his brilliance! Also, I actually fell in love with his music AFTER he created that melodious Airtel jingle! Ammmmmazing!!! I have a long list of rants AGAINST his Oscar winning Jai Ho from the movie Slumdog Millionaire but I will NOT rant. Not now, at least. This is a happy post; so no ranting.

Prasoon Joshi, because he is so bloody awesome with his lyrics. He weaves magic with words. He has the ability to “Bard” up a song if he wants it to. Another song from the same movie as Kholo Kholo Darwaze is Tujhe sab hai pata… Meri Maa makes the best of us cry; actually weep out. I know so many who wept during the song in the movie hall. I think I did too… It’s when the kid misses his mum in his boarding school.

The budding poet (“trying very hard to bud” poet in me, actually) wants to translate the song in English for the wider audience but I will stop before I embarrass myself. My english readers, I’m sorry, for I cannot translate this without making it sound like trash. What I can do is walk you through the journey. Right?

I shall try.

The song is basically about a kid (Ishaan) (3rd grade or something) and his fight with dyslexia. Like many (read maximum) cases in India Dyslexia goes unnoticed in a child who is blamed and beaten for his attention span and bad grades. Aamir Khan, Ishaan’s new art teacher at his new boarding school, realises the artistic genius within Ishaan when he sees Ishaan’s paintings. The journey is about Ishaan and how he manages to overcome his weakness by proper attention from an honest hardworking teacher.

The song’s video shows an art competition being held, and it is one of the most endearing moments of the movie! I’m sure that without even knowing the language you would enjoy this.

Watch the video and then hum the lyrics along with it!!!

Kholo Kholo Darwaze
Parde Karo Kinare
Khutey Se Bandhi Hai Hawa
Mil Ke Chudao Saare

Aajao Patang Leke
Apney Hi Rang Leke
Aasmaan Ka Shamiyana
Aaj Hamein Hai Sajana

Kyun Is Kadar Hairaan Tu
Mausam Ka Hai Mehmaan Tu
Duniya Sajee Tere Liye
Khud Ko Zara Pehchaan Tu

Tu Dhoop Hain Jham Se Bikhar
Tu Hai Nadee O Bekhabar
Beh Chal Kahin Ud Chal Kahin
Dil Khush Jahan Teri
Toh Manzil Hai Wahin

Kyun Is Kadar Hairaan Tu
Mausam Ka Hai Mehmaan Tu

Baasi Zindagi Udaasi
Taazi Hasney Ko Raazi
Garma Garma Saari
Abhi Abhi Hai Utaari

Oooh Zindagi To Hain Batasha
Meethi Meethi Si Hai Aasha
Chakh Le Rakh Le
Hatheli Se Dhak Le Ise

Tujh Mein Agar Pyaas Hai
Baarish Ka Ghar Bhi Pass Hai
Roke Tujhe Koi Kyon Bhala
Sang Sang Tere Aakash Hai

Tu Dhoop Hain Jham Se Bikhar
Tu Hai Nadee O Bekhabar
Beh Chal Kahin Ud Chal Kahin
Dil Khush Jahan Teri
Toh Manzil Hai Wahin

Khul Gaya Aasmaan Ka Rasta Dekho Khul Gaya
Mil Gaya Kho Gaya Tha Jo Sitara Mil Gaya

Roshan Hui Saari Zameen
Jagmag Hua Saara Jahaan
Oh Udne Ko Tu Aazad Hai
Bandhan Koi Ab Hai Kahan

Tu Dhoop Hain Jham Se Bikhar
Tu Hai Nadee O Bekhabar
Beh Chal Kahin Ud Chal Kahin
Dil Khush Jahan Teri Toh Manzil Hai Wahin

Oh Kyun Is Kadar Hairaan Tu
Mausam Ka Hai Mehmaan Tu

There are certain anology in the song that makes me melt in the scintillating brightness of the creativity. Aajao Patang Leke Apney Hi Rang Leke Aasmaan Ka Shamiyana Aaj Hamein Hai Sajana is just one of them.

Although, this post is about the entire song and not ONLY about the lyrics, I cannot not give an honourary salute to Prasoon Joshi.

Sir, you are not  just a lyricst. You are a wizard.

PS: There are many people associated with this awesome movie. Amole Gupte did an amazing job with the script. Bollywood (God, I hate the term) needs such movies and not like the 80% crap we come out with!

PPS: Bollywood does NOT encompass every movie made in India. It deals with ONLY the ones made in Hindi language. It is a rich industry and churns out a zillion movies every year. Regional movies and other movies made in India in any language other than Hindi are not guided by Bollywood. So when I say 80% are crap I only mean that the movies under the banner of Bollywood.

PPS: I made a mistake. A friend pointed it out to me. The song that I was speaking about isn’t by A.R. Rahman. it is by another batch of musical guys called Shankar-Ehsan-Loy, or SEL. It was my mistake that I automatically thought that this kick ass song’s music was by Rahman. I didn’t even look it up *facepalm*
