I wish for long journeys
And empty roads.
Empty roads leading
Far away from here.
Far from here
I wish for a lone car
And a flat tire.
A flat tire and
A harassed you.
I wish that I
Zipped past you,
The harassed you.
On the lonely road,
I wish for a flicker
Of recognition.
A pretty face I see
And I, alone in the
Alone with you, pull over
To kindle an old friendship.
I wish for you to not recognize
I wish for you to be afraid.
A stranger along a highway
And a girl stranded, scared.
It’s a flat tire, you say.
I smile and roll my sleeves
Not telling you yet that we
Have had a past.
I fix the tire.
I fake sweat and a tired
I see you with a big smile.
I see you extend your hand
To thank a lone stranger
Who stopped to help a pretty
I wish for me to have the
Courage to go down on my
Knees and kiss those long
Fingers and to smile a smile that
Would abandon all fears.
But I only doff my hat,
Taking care not to touch
The fragile wisp of my

And I am back on the road.

Back on the road
Imagining another face
Waiting for a man to
Come along
And fix a flat tire.
Or, a stalled engine;
Or, an empty tank.
I wait for them so I
Can convince myself
That they do exist.

For in my imagination,
Dames still respect
Men who care.
Dames still call it
Chivalry and readily

This had quite a wistful tone … With some tweaking, this could be the lyrics of a song – wonder how the musical arrangement would be … Anyways, good writing.
